What am I up to

I'm currently testing various methods for localisation, I don't like the way mvc does it as it compiles the language files into the dll which means to add a new language you have to recompile the code which to me seems an enormous step backwards in terms of functionality, with a simple asp.net website the resource files are complied at runtime by the server, so you can just chuck a new resource file on the server and recycle the website and it then supports the new language.
to do the same in mvc requires writing a custom provider so you can store the language strings in either the database or xml files, so I am doing a few tests to see which is the best approach

currently battling with upgrading a standard MySQL forum to the new Mvc version.
Discovered that the base classic asp code has some bugs in the sql scripts that create the forum tables ( a few columns are created as a different type in MySQL than in SQL or Access). This is causing me a bit of a headache at the moment.

sorted now I think, had to make some changes to the dbs script processor, classic asp creates some fields as double rather than int, seems nobody ever noticed , unfortunately .net errors as it expects an int and can't convert the double into an int.

Well, I was planning on this weekend, but am now going to be in Cornwall to see my dad so it will be some point later next week.
I don't think I need to make anymore code changes for the install/upgrade process, so pretty much what is running here will be what is released.

Not yet I should have install/upgrade instructions finished by the weekend, so could do with some testing of that before release if anyone is able to test either a fresh install or an upgrade, that would be great. Will keep you posted.
Currently it will update a vanilla install of Classic Snitz, it may work with some modded forums, but that would depend on the degree of modification. If anyone has a modded db I can get a copy of, I can do some checking to see where issues may crop up.

I gladly test a fresh install. Cannot do upgrade as I have to many custom mods.

Any chance you could generate a script to recreate your db? no data needed, just the schema.
Would be useful to see if it is at least possible to update, even if losing some MODS

Alright Mush,
Obviously I can test a clean install and also have a small lightly miodded forum you can try out an upgrade on? I htink it just has PM's, active users and maybe a couple of security upgrades? if the DB can be backed up what can go wrong aye...just let me know if I can help

That would be useful, to check the PM stuff as there are lots of slight variations in versions of the PM, so could do with checking. Active users is junked with mvc as it has its own tracking method so your slightly modded should upgrade ok depending on PM

Test went reasonably well had to make a couple of changes to accommodate your setup, and fix your config table as it had duplicate values in it. Will do an in place upgrade on live forum shortly, should only be a minor hiccup while I update it.
