I also have a pi version 1 & 2 used one for security connected camera and door sensor etc to monitor my server rack and email/ftp images and save videos.
Got one controlling with a 4 way board power to lights..
You have to tell me more about your pis and use etc.

I have a pi2 and a pi3 the pi3 runs my Logitech media server and is running a wordpress website using nginx(web server) and a MySQL server which I use to host a snitz database for testing MySQL. The pi2 which is the one pictured above running the Larson scanner is just used for playing and testing bits and pieces, currently considering setting it up as a camera to monitor the bird table.

The pi3 also works as a standalone media server (it has a 1Tb sata drive in its case) as the wifi auto switches to become an access point if it loses the connection to my home wifi so I can carry my entire music collection with me on holiday smile
