when I uncheck "Show only images with species data" and want to see all images, they are listed with the oldest first. And when I click "date" to sort newest to oldest, it doesn't listen to me

sounds like a bug to me

It is two things.
1) Column sorting is not working
2) Default order should be from new to old, also after unchecking/checking the different options
